Why riders start here

Everything you need for day one

You do not need a motorcycle, a permit-holder to follow you around, or any prior experience. You need a helmet and a willingness to be a beginner.

01

Bikes provided

Training motorcycles are supplied for the beginner course. Nothing to buy, nothing to trailer in.

02

Off-street range

You learn in a closed, controlled riding area — not in traffic, and not on a residential street.

03

MSF curriculum

An authorized MSF-approved training provider, running the standard Motorcycle Safety Foundation coursework.

04

Coaches who ride

Instruction from working riders, including advanced courses taught by police motorcycle officers.

The beginner course

Two days from never-ridden to riding

The Basic RiderCourse is where almost everyone starts. It runs across a Saturday and Sunday, or a matched weekday pair, at whichever range suits you.

  • 15–18 hours total, with 10–12 of them on a motorcycle
  • Classroom sessions and range exercises in the same two days
  • Training motorcycle provided — bring your own helmet
  • New Jersey's motorcycle licence test waiver program
  • Runs at both Riverdale and West Orange

Where we train

Two ranges, north and east

Riverdale

107 Newark Pompton Turnpike
Riverdale, NJ 07457

The Riverdale Armory range, in Morris County just off Route 23 — an off-street, controlled riding area with classroom space on site.

West Orange

1315 Pleasant Valley Way
West Orange, NJ 07052

The West Orange range in Essex County, close in to Newark and the Oranges — the easiest of the two to reach from inside the beltway.

Who teaches you

Fifteen RiderCoaches, and not one of them learned this last season

Retired police motor officers. A rider with roughly half a million miles. An instructor who certifies New Jersey's own motor officers. And several coaches who took the beginner course on this same range and came back to teach it.
